Robert FriedlandCEO and Co-Chair
Robert assumed the roles of Chairman and CEO of HPX in December 2015. He also is the founder, Executive Chairman, and a director of Ivanhoe Mines Ltd and is the Chairman and President of Ivanhoe Capital Corporation. He directed the assembly by Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. of a portfolio of interests in several countries over 15 years and led the company’s discoveries and initial development of the Oyu Tolgoi copper-gold-silver deposits in southern Mongolia. Robert has received wide recognition for his work in the industry including Mining Personality of the Year at the inaugural Asia Mining Awards in 2012 and the Dealmaker of the Year award for Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. from Australia’s Diggers and Dealers Mining Forum in 2011.
Ian has more than 35 years of experience in the global resources industry and serves as a director for Ivanhoe Mines Ltd., Petmin Ltd., Hummingbird Resources Ltd., and Orica Ltd as well as acting as an advisor to several other companies in the mining field. As Chairman of the Leadership for Conservation in Africa, a not-for-profit initiative, Mr. Cockerill has been engaged in promoting conservation and sustainable development across the African continent, in partnership with the South African Parks Board, global business leaders and the International Union for Conservation of Nature.
Eric was appointed President of HPX in 2015 after serving as Senior Advisor-Business Development since 2013. Prior to joining HPX, he spent 24 years with Rio Tinto including 5 years as Global Head of Exploration. Eric’s global multi-commodity experience is an asset to HPX as are his extensive industry contacts.
Mark GibsonChief Operating Officer
Mark is the Chief Operating Officer for HPX following on from his role as CEO from 2011 to 2015, and has built the company from a cash shell to its current global exploration portfolio. He is also the COO of HPX subsidiary Kaizen Discovery (TSX-V: KZD). Before joining HPX, Mark worked with Anglo American, and had previously been the founder of a geophysical service company focused on managing seismic surveys for the mining industry. Mark has 26 years of wide-ranging experience as a geoscientist and manager in the natural resources sector.
Charles Forster, P.Geo.Vice President Exploration
Charles is a Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.) and has more than 45 years of diversified mineral exploration experience in Canada, United States, Sub-Saharan Africa, Portugal, China and Mongolia. He was formerly the Senior Vice President of Exploration at Oyu Tolgoi in Mongolia for Ivanhoe Mines (now Turquoise Hill Resources) from early 2001 to June 2008. During this time, he led a team of multi-national and Mongolian geologists in the discovery and delineation of the world-class Oyu Tolgoi copper-gold porphyry deposit.
Sam RiggallCommercial Advisor
Sam has extensive multi-commodity project development experience in most parts of the world. He is Chairman and CEO of Clean TeQ Holdings, an Australian company developing the Syerston scandium project in New South Wales. He worked in a number of business development and project evaluation roles within Rio Tinto including working as the chief negotiator for the Oyu Tolgoi project before joining Ivanhoe Mines as Executive Vice President. Sam also acts as Commercial Advisor for HPX's subsidiary Kaizen Discovery (TSX-V: KZD).
Nick WilliamsPrincipal Geophysicist
Nick is Principal Geophysicist for HPX. He develops and applies advanced 3D geophysical strategies for exploration, specialising in integrating geological and geophysical models and data in 3D to find buried mineral deposits. In his previous role as Senior Geophysicist - Global Exploration at Ivanhoe Australia his modelling helped predict and accurately delineate a major resource extension at the PlatReef PGE deposit in South Africa. He continues to advance the predictive capabilities of geophysical inversion tools.
